  • You know what I haven’t done in forever?

Just sat down and thought. Nor have i sat down, though, then wrote in my blog about what i thought.

So my thought right now have turned to music.

Specifcally the song “Jack Sparrow” from Pirates of the Caribbean.

When the song first starts out, it has a certai sound to it that i can only descirbe as “swagger.” If you listen to teh song you’ll know what i mean. Its a sound that reminds you of a teetering drunk, or someone stumblign along trying to balance an incredibly heavy weight. At this point the song is in 3/4 time.

From there the song picks up speed, going from 3/4 time to 4/4 time, loses it swagger while retaining its melody, and sounds more like a fighting song. When i say that i mean it has a very structured emphasis on certain beats. Then it builds, and builds slowly but surely up to its climax, when a new sound enters. Its a bit darker and more evil sounding.

Then we go back to the original melody, flitting along with the darker sounds in silence.

The evil sounds pick up the pace again with the main melody playing through it all, building and building again, until it reaches the climax, and ends.

Or we could see it like this.

The intro starts. You see a drunk stumbling around. He is a secondary  character. He carries the weight of the main character on his shoulders. The main character forgets this and needs to be reminded, so the secondary character reprimands him.

The fast paced melody starts up. This is the main character. He is a swashbuckler incarnate. His wit is sharper than a razor. He always seems to be running from rather than running to. He has a host of followers he feels barely anything for, but they see him as their uniting force. He just shakes off their ideals with a wave of his hand most of the time. That is until…

The heavy sounds start, the main villain. He is dark and has an army at his disposal. Like in all stories it comes down to a face off between the villains forces and the main characters forces. The villain goes on and on about him limitless supply of forces. War machines and soldiers out the wazoo. His name is something to be feared.

And throughout all of this the main character is just watching him, until he can take no more. He interrupts the villains incredibly overzealous and pompous dialogue with a monologue of his own. He responds by pointing out his followers adn the fact they have no reason to give up. They beleive so much in their ideals that he has actually started to beleive what they do. He /beleives/ he is a good person, therefore he is. And because of this, according to the rules of any causality, since hes the good guy he has to win. Throughout this whole speech, his followers watch him in amazement, because he has truly become their shining light. Then hen he gets to the end of his speech, still speaking fluidly, he adds that he in fact beleives nothing of what he just said and is goign to start running now.

The song ends with him running from both the villain and those that followed him originally.
